ARU National Referees Academy – Operational Plan  The National Referees Academy will use ARU’s Referee Coaching and Self-Evaluation Methodology.  This represents the practical application of the methodology and tools espoused in the LIII Referee and Referee Coaching Programs.  Members of the Academy will be monitored by the NRA Training and Performance Review Program

ARU National Referees Academy – Operational Plan  Members of the National Referees Academy have been invited into the program on the understanding that they agree to undertake the tasks required of them and to work with the Academy Coaches in order to improve their onfield performances.

ARU National Referees Academy – Operational Plan  Academy Referees will be appraised and tested at the commencement of the program in terms of all ten modules of the Referee Coaching Methodology.  Individual goals will be set and improvement programs developed.

ARU National Referees Academy – Operational Plan NRA Training & Performance Review Program  All aspects of the NRA coaching and development program will be monitored through the use of an Athletes Activity Diary as part of the NRA Training & Performance Review Program.  This diary will represent the prime source of data and information with respect to the activities and performances of each Academy member.

ARU National Referees Academy – Operational Plan Match Program  The National Referees Academy coaching and development program will incorporate a Match Program devised by the ARU’s National Referee Selection Committee in consultation with State Referee Selection Committees.

ARU National Referees Academy – Operational Plan Coaching and Mentoring  Members of the Academy will be assigned a LIII Referee Coach for 2004 and receive specific one-on-one referee coaching during the season  The processes adopted and outcomes obtained will be monitored by the National Referees Academy Manager  This will provide a development process for both the Referee and the Referee Coach

ARU National Referees Academy – Operational Plan Coaching and Mentoring  Each member of the Academy will be assigned a Referee Mentor from the National Referees Squad to provide assistance and guidance from a ‘practitioner’s’ viewpoint

ARU National Referees Academy – Operational Plan Academy Camps and Review Processes  There will be two Academy camps in  The first will be held in conjunction with the National Referees Squad’s pre-season seminar in February in  The second will be held in July and will review the seasons performance to date.

ARU National Referees Academy – Operational Plan Academy Review Processes  An end-of-season individual performance review will be conducted with the National Referees Academy Manager and National Referee Coach.

ARU National Referees Academy – Operational Plan Academy Review Processes This review will:  Assess the performances of academy members in season 2004 and identify personal improvement plans for the future.  Discuss whether individual Referees will be included in the Academy for 2005 or will be required to undertake specific performance improvement programs in order to be reinstated into the Academy in the future.

ARU National Referees Academy – Operational Plan Individual Requirements - Academy Referees  Adopt the ARU’s Referee Coaching and Self-Evaluation Methodology as the prescribed coaching model  Maintain a diary based on the NRA Training & Performance Review Program  Maintain a database of data collected with respect to refereeing and training performances.

ARU National Referees Academy – Operational Plan Individual Requirements - Academy Referees  Undertake analysis of the data with the coach  Undertake video review sessions with the Coach and in groups with other Referees and Referee Coaches  Obtain ‘Benchmark’ data with respect to the performances of elite Referees  Analyse and compare the ‘Benchmark’ data with personal data and develop self improvement strategies in consultation with the Referee Coach

ARU National Referees Academy – Operational Plan Individual Requirements - Academy Coaches  Adopt the ARU’s Referee Coaching and Self-Evaluation Methodology as the prescribed coaching model  Maintain a diary of assistance provided to the Referee based on the coaching methodology  Review the Referees database and analyse the data  Undertake video review sessions with the Referee and in groups with other Referees and Referee Coaches

ARU National Referees Academy – Operational Plan Individual Requirements - Academy Coaches  Maintain a log of advice provided to the Referee, action initiated and measurement of the Referees progress  Review ‘Benchmark’ data and devise coaching strategies that will elevate the Referee’s performances to ‘Benchmark’ levels  Focus on coaching Academy Referees and members of the Watch Squad within State coaching programs

ARU National Referees Academy – Operational Plan Summary  The National Referees Academy is designed to provide a Referee coaching and development environment for potential elite Referees in which they can develop their skills so that they are in the best position for elevation to the National Referees Squad.

ARU National Referees Academy – Operational Plan Summary  Members of the Academy are considered as having the potential to perform at the elite level in the future.  Through their development within the Academy they will be given every opportunity to improve their refereeing skills or referee coaching skills to facilitate their inclusion at the elite level.
