Economic Globalisation; Kyiv, 3-6 July How to manage statistics in a global world?

Economic Globalisation; Kyiv, 3-6 July Some History Globalisation started in the 17th century VOC: the first company to operate world wide. The location of the Netherlands on the Northsea; the river Rhine; transit position to Germany. Development of multinationals Philips and Royal Dutch Shell in the 20th century.

Economic Globalisation; Kyiv, 3-6 July Problems in statistics Inconsistencies in different statistical sources – The financial accounts of companies – Production statistics – International trade and services – Investment statistics

Economic Globalisation; Kyiv, 3-6 July Caused by – No clear solutions within the SNA; – Many overlapping definitions; – Complexity in international company constructions; – Different departments within SN; – Different respondents within one company; – Detection problems.

Economic Globalisation; Kyiv, 3-6 July Complexity In the paper “Globalisation and the effect on National Accounts” solutions to complex situations are described. Distortions within one company may cause problems in the National Accounts as a whole. These problems should be eliminated in the source statistics to avoid double effort.

Economic Globalisation; Kyiv, 3-6 July Detection; post active The project Mothers & Daughters distiguishes “suspected” companies. With the help of all statistical units involved (Taylor made) solutions are implemented. Time consuming, but relevant; Difficult to manage in the organisation.

Economic Globalisation; Kyiv, 3-6 July Detection; active In the Netherlands: – > company that pay company tax. – The top 1000 enterprises and their KAU’s generate > 55% of total turnover. This makes a waterproof coordination between source statistics essential. Achievable by Congo.

Economic Globalisation; Kyiv, 3-6 July Congo Means: – The will to solve the problem – Management – Manpower – Database – A central unit to handle large companies

Economic Globalisation; Kyiv, 3-6 July CONGO Confronts: – 8 source statistics – 3 tax sources –15 key variables Goal: preventing inconsistencies and controlling globalisation in statistics.
