 In 1670 Rene-Robert Sieur De Salle was probably the first white man to reach the Ohio Region  In 1763 France surrendered their claim of the Ohio Region to Great Britain  Then in 1788 in Marietta the first white settlement was established  In 1795 Indian wars in the Ohio Region ended with a treaty against Greenville  Finally in 1803 Ohio became the 17 th state on March 1 st

 Ohio is in the eastern part of the midwest region  In size ranked 35 th  Area: 41,330 square miles  It borders Michigan on the north, Pennsylvania and West Virginia on the east, West Virginia and Kentucky on the south and Indiana on the west
