War vs. Reality How does Tim O’ Briens’ account of the war differ from other novels and films of war we have read or seen?

“Where Have You Gone Oh Charming Billy” Tim O’Briens account differs from others because he tells the story of war through a lens of innocence.Tim O’Briens account differs from others because he tells the story of war through a lens of innocence. Example:Example: Tim uses a novice of war like Paul Berlin and first day in combat to show how devastating war can be to someone who never witnessed such destruction. Unlike in catch-22 where the soldiers already knew of the corrupt things that happened during wars like senseless deaths.

“Where Have You Gone Oh Charming Billy” The structure is a lot like Catch 22 because both authors use a lot of flashbacks and disruptive writing to get their meaning acrossThe structure is a lot like Catch 22 because both authors use a lot of flashbacks and disruptive writing to get their meaning across Example:Example: We never know the complete story of Billy’s death, until the author is ready to tell us in the end. Also, in Catch-22, we never know what goes on between Orr and his whore. We never know the complete story of Billy’s death, until the author is ready to tell us in the end. Also, in Catch-22, we never know what goes on between Orr and his whore.

“Where Have You Gone Oh Charming” Both of these stories show characters that are disillusioned by war. Example: When Yossarian witnessed Snowden’s death. He saw that he could have easily been one of the soldiers who were dying, for reason beyond his control. In Tim O’Brien’s story Paul tries to escape the reality of war when he reminisces about life before the war when he was young and safe).

War Novels and Films Usually in war movies and novels the story has a sequence in which they follow, with one incident happening after the other. The way Tim O’Brien jumps around from the present to the past and back again, it is like a distorted memory. (Ex: Movies like Pearl Harbor and Behind Enemy Lines are shown in order where as in stories like Tim O’ Briens, he tells of the characters memories in a very choppy order.)Usually in war movies and novels the story has a sequence in which they follow, with one incident happening after the other.
