WWHS MONDAY 9/9/14 DO NOW: Log onto one of the laptops. Please bear in mind it may take a few minutes to connect to the network. Do not attempt to sign in on more than one laptop to make this process go faster. Be patient.

WWHS Researching for the IS Research Project You are required to use at least four (4) peer reviewed sources. This can include journal articles from accredited authors, social science, or science journals. Where can you find these?!

WWHS Resource #1: EBSCO This resource is available to you online as a high school student.

WWHS Resource #2: Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) This site maintains peer reviewed journals that are free for you to access and print. Over 9,000 journals are included on this site, and are searchable by keywords. Access at:

WWHS Resource #3: Cogprints Cogprints offers free online access to archived published and unpublished research papers in psychology, neuroscience, behavioral science, and some computer science. Access at:

WWHS Resource #4: Google Scholar Google scholar is a special version of google that finds articles that are from academic journals. Some articles are available as full HTML documents or PDFS for free… but some require you to pay! (You don’t want to do that!) Access at:

WWHS Resource #5… You CANNOT use wikipedia as a source for your topic, BUT… Wikipedia hosts an excellent list of research journals that are free and have open access. Access at: access_journals access_journals

WWHS Citations in APA format Your paper will have a Works Cited page, where you list the sources you use (at least 8) in APA format. Your paper must also include in text citations. These follow any quote or piece of information that is NOT common knowledge that you learned from your research.

WWHS In-Text Citation Example Let’s say that you are summarizing a study by Dr. Steve Douglas that was published in 1998: According to Dr. Douglas’ study, plants that were grown in a sandy soil showed signs of stunted growth, while common potting soil plants showed ordinary growth comparable to the control group. (Douglas, 1998)
