1.Optic or body tube – connects eyepiece to objective lens 2.Revolving nosepiece – turns objectives Type of objectives – they all magnify at different strengths 3. Scanning (the shortest one) -- magnifies 4x B(4). Low power objective – magnifies 10x C(5). High power objective (longest one) -- magnifies 40x

M(6). Stage clips – holds slide in place J(7). Diaphragm – controls how much light is on slide – 2 types are a. wheel and b. lever K(8). Light A(9)Eyepiece – look through it and magnifies 10 x H (10)Arm – carry microscope with D (11)Stage – holds slide or object being looked at

F(12). Coarse focus – sharpens image by moving stage G(13). Fine focus knob – sharpens image, see depth and adjusts for differences in eyesight E(14). Base – supports microscope

Total magnification – how many times what you are looking at is magnified T.M. = eyepiece x objective Scanning x 4 = 40 Low power – 10 x 10 = 100 High power – 10 x 40 = 400 Oil immersion – 10 x 100 = 1000

Resolution is how clear an image is. As magnification goes up, resolution goes down. We say they are inversely related.
