Date: 10-09-14 Title: Plant Cells / Looking at Elodea Standard: MS1-LS1-3 Conduct an investigation to provide evidence that things are made of cells or many different types and numbers of cells. Learning Target: I can record detailed, specific observations. Success Criteria: [ ] "Looking at Elodea" WS Do Now: Explain or draw what you expect to see when using a microscope on a plant. Learning Activities: "Looking at Elodea" WS Processing Assignment / Closure: Write one thing you learned today. Write one question you still have.

Date: 10/9/14 (A Day) Title: Plant Cells / "Looking at Elodea" WS Standard: MS-LS-1 3m LT: I can record specific and detailed observations. I can estimate the size under a microscope. Success Criteria: [ ] "Looking at Elodea" WS [ ] Update TOC Do now: *pick up worksheet *Explain or draw what you expect to see when using a microscope on a plant.

One Student - Bring a slide up and tweezers to the table and prepare a wet mount of Elodea leaf. Slide, Elodea leaf (correct side up), Drop of Pond Water, Cover Slip. (5 Minutes) to prepare slide. Set your total power to 100x (10x eyepiece * 10x objective lens = 100x) Limit your microscope time to 1 minute (7 Minutes) focus up and down through the leaf. If you are not looking at the slide... *Sit down *Record your observations for "Part 1: Elodea at 100x." Guiding questions: What do you see when you look at the Elodea? What did you notice when focus up and down through the leaf?
