To explore, enjoy, and protect the wild places of the earth; Mission Statement To explore, enjoy, and protect the wild places of the earth; To practice and promote the responsible use of the earth's ecosystems and resources; To educate and enlist humanity to protect and restore the quality of the natural and human environment; and to use all lawful means to carry out these objectives.

History Started in California Founded by May 28th 1892 with 182 members 1st president: John Muir Surpassed 1000 members in 1908 "Everybody needs beauty as well as bread, places to play in and pray in, where nature may heal and give strength to body and soul alike." -- John Muir, The Yosemite (1912)

Acheivments Protect land Support or oppose legislature 2007 - Club encourages Congress to pass a Renewable Energy Standard that requires utilities to produce 15% of their power from clean, renewable energy by 2020. 2008 - Club continued its string of successes, stopping construction of 68 new coal fired power plants Helped pass Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, and Endangered Species Act.
