Anaphylaxis Protocol, 2006 An Act to Protect Anaphylactic Pupils Sabrina’s Law, 2005 Halton District School Board

Background:  HDSB Anaphylaxis Protocol first developed in 1999  Since Sept. 2005, multi-disciplinary team met and made revisions based on Sabrina’s Law  Current 2006 protocol is the same for both Halton school boards

What’s New for 2006? School–wide Management Plan Individual Student Monitoring and Risk Reduction Plan in addition to Emergency Treatment Form A communication plan Staff training plan Student file Parent/Guardian Package (elem & sec) to be completed during registration Anaphylaxis Operating Policy/Procedure

Sabrina’s Law: 6 parts 1. Strategies that reduce the risk of exposure to anaphylactic causative agents in classrooms and common areas 2. A communication plan for the dissemination of information on life threatening allergies to parents, students and employees 3. Regular training about dealing with life threatening allergies for all employees and others who are in direct contact with students on a regular basis

Continued…. 4. Each school will develop an individual plan for each student who has an anaphylactic allergy 5. On registration, each school principal will ensure that parents, guardians and students supply information on life threatening allergies 6. A file shall be maintained for each anaphylactic student which includes current treatment, evidence of the prescription and current emergency contact list.
