Delaware Delaware is typically known as the wealthiest county in Ohio. However, hunger is everywhere and 17,890 Delaware County residents face food insecurity... including 7,390 children

This increased need is not being met for our Delaware County families

 Has actively served Delaware County since 1995 at Oakhurst Place affordable housing.  Has been providing hunger relief services since  Until July 2013, operated 5 pantries serving families in 9 counties. NOURISHING OUR NEIGHBORS Feeding the Hungry in Delaware County WHO?

NOURISHING OUR NEIGHBORS Feeding the Hungry in Delaware County WHAT IS LSS DOING IN DELAWARE COUNTY? In July, we initiated monthly mobile pantry services in Ashley.

NOURISHING OUR NEIGHBORS Feeding the Hungry in Delaware County WHAT IS LSS DOING IN DELAWARE COUNTY? In August, we added monthly pantry services near Sunbury.

NOURISHING OUR NEIGHBORS Feeding the Hungry in Delaware County WHAT IS LSS DOING IN DELAWARE COUNTY? In 2014, we plan to open a large, permanent storefront pantry in Delaware.

 The focus will be on healthier food choices, especially fresh produce.  The storefront location will serve as a “food hub” - making fresh produce and other products available to other emergency food providers.  The storefront location will serve as a platform for the Ohio Benefit Bank and other services, including nutrition, cooking and financial literacy classes. NOURISHING OUR NEIGHBORS Feeding the Hungry in Delaware County WHAT IS LSS DOING IN DELAWARE COUNTY?

 Once fully operational, the storefront and mobile pantry distributions will serve approximately 1,000 families per month, almost doubling the number of current distributions reported to Mid-Ohio Foodbank.  All distributions will utilized the Choice Model:  Promotes dignity and self-esteem.  Reduces food waste.  Ensures balanced nutrition.  The issue of hunger in our community is too big for any one agency to tackle alone.  Rural areas of the county are underserved.  Evening and weekend availability is limited.  As a system, we need to move more fresh produce to positively impact the health of our community.
