Copyright © 2009 by Stan Pope Page 2 Two Scenario Types Everyone is active concurrently, such as Fishing or Kite Flying Small groups are active while others await their turn, such as Rain Gutter Regatta, Pinewood Derby, or Cubmobile Racing.

Copyright © 2009 by Stan Pope Page 3 Concurrent Participation Identify basis for competition Develop method for measurement Provide for fair judging and accurate recording

Copyright © 2009 by Stan Pope Page 4 Examples First fish caught Biggest fish caught Kite stayed up the longest Kite went highest

Copyright © 2009 by Stan Pope Page 5 Criteria Awards Caught a fish Got the kite to fly Small Ribbons would be good recognition items for these... take my Silk Screening session for printing on them!

Copyright © 2009 by Stan Pope Page 6 Small Groups at a Time When only a few can actively compete at one time, such as two at a time race their boats in the Rain Gutter Regatta gutter, you need a way to compare results from different heats.

Copyright © 2009 by Stan Pope Page 7 Small Groups at a Time Timing by stop watch... how many should be timing each entrant?

Copyright © 2009 by Stan Pope Page 8 Small Groups at a Time Points for winning / placing in heats... how to assure that each entrant faces comparable opponents? Young and Pope Charts are good, but difficult if only group is large and have only 2 lanes. Competition can be broken into two stages... preliminary races and finals. For finals, opponents should be balanced.

Copyright © 2009 by Stan Pope Page 9 Small Groups at a Time Elimination method... entrants compete against others with comparable records and are eliminated after failing to win some number of races. See “No Chart, Multiple Elimination Racing “ at

Copyright © 2009 by Stan Pope Page 10 Other Competitions If entrants make their own entries, then some “appearance” categories might be judged. As many categories for which you can afford meaningful recognition is a good plan. Decide if one entrant can receive recognition in more than on category.
