How to develop mechanism of involvement Ukrainian SMEs in European Research and Innovation programs? Starting point: Asses the level of SMEs innovativeness Obvious but not so easy for Ukraine Till 2009 – statistic only on innovations in industrial enterprises Not comparable with EU The Institute for Economic Research and Policy Consulting

Own studies Business tendency survey outdated technologies as barriers interrelations between general economic development and technology importance Barriers: outdated technologies 5% BUT low demand 62.7%, liquidity issues 57.9%, unstable politic situation - by 43.3% 13% need government support of innovations no interrelation between outdated technologies as a barrier and necessity to have government support of innovations The Institute for Economic Research and Policy Consulting

Business tendency survey machinery building enterprises want to have such support more often than other industries medium sized enterprises want to have government support of innovations more than small and large large enterprises did not mentioned outdated technologies among barriers at all, while small enterprises mentioned this barrier more often than medium sized distribution between industries is not really important because of the low amount of positive answers. outdated technologies is not among top barriers The Institute for Economic Research and Policy Consulting SMEs have to survive not innovate

Own studies Investment attractiveness of the Ukrainian regions Networking level of cooperation between enterprises and S&T institutions from 0 (no cooperation) to 9 (strong cooperation) not strong cooperation high level of standard deviation strong cooperation especially in Vinnitsa, Zaporizzhya, Odessa, Poltava, Kyiv The lowest level of cooperation was identified in Crimea, Donetsk, Zakarpattya and Sumy The Institute for Economic Research and Policy Consulting
