DARS The Virginia Department for Aging and Rehabilitative Services, in collaboration with community partners, provides and advocates for resources and services to improve the employment, quality of life, security, and independence of older Virginians, Virginians with disabilities, and their families. DARS was created in 2012 by merging the former Department of Rehabilitative Services and Department for the Aging. In 2013, the adult services unit from Virginia's Department of Social Services joined DARS as its Adult Protective Services Division.Department for the AgingAdult Protective Services Division

Transition Services All public high schools are covered by a VR counselor. Referrals are recommended to begin three years prior to school exiting. Services provided are in coordination with school services. May include: evaluations not provided by the school.

Transitions Services Continued AT assessments Driving Evaluations Career guidance and counseling Updated testing if needed for eligibility or program planning. Updated medical if needed for eligibility or program planning. IPE Development.

Plan to Access Higher Education Determination of Financial Eligibility Career goals researched for viability Mandated to complete FAFSA If financial eligibility is met, determine level of funding available Advise to self disclose with DSS Ongoing guidance and counseling Regular contacts between counselor and consumer

Higher Education Services If financially eligible funding is based on the schools Cost of Attendance Any Disability related items are handled outside of the COA Summer employment/internships are recommended Must maintain at least a 2.0 unless a higher GPA is required by the degree program
