General introduction to RFID –The origins –Standards involved (ISO15693) –Technolgy involved –Types of tags and use (books, borrower´s card, cd-rom, etc.) –Services offered by using RFID –Securiy issues

General discussion Players involved (ILS vendor, HW vendor, RFID installer, etc.) Benefits of RFID/self-check –Improve customer services (ex: longer opening window) –Save labour costs –Inventory control Very important: promotion to staff & users

Checklist for an RFID self-check system Integration with ILS (standards important) Ergonomic design It should be compact (specially if sorting machines) Reliability and maintenance (important remote access) SIP-2 protocol minimum Item per item or stack

Quality of label (and also printed with logos or so) Price Training planning and documentation Parametrization (by the library itself) Implementation flow (phisical) Integration of borrower´s card with other services (access, coffe machine, photocopier, etc.) Statistics
