5 FY10 LIA Application Training Review Nutrition Education Funding Opportunity Reimbursement program NOT a grant Federal Fiscal Year – October 1, 2009 through September 30, 2010 Requires State/Local funds spent at the local level Increases nutrition education budget by 50% through federal reimbursement

7 Community Partnership A Community Partner… –is a person or representative of an agency interested in receiving AzNN materials, news, or information, but is unable to attend meetings or participate in many Network activities –may be limited to simply ordering and using AzNN materials –may include teachers, self-employed professionals, consultants, etc

8 Supporting Partnership A Supporting Partner… –works with contributing partners in the local areas, utilizes AzNN messages and materials –may contribute funds to the leading agency but does not have a contract with ADHS –valuable partner within the AzNN but is unable to contribute matching funds to the Network

9 Supporting Partnership –Federally funded agencies (Head Start) –State Agencies (Department of Economic Security, Department of Education, Department of Agriculture, etc.) –Private Non-profit agencies (American Heart Association, Food Banks, etc.)

10 Contributing Partnership A Contributing Partner… –is a lead agency in contributing state/local share funds to the AzNN –contracts with ADHS and receives reimbursements –attends AzNN meetings and participate in committees –has access to all AzNN materials as well as promotional items –works with supporting agencies

13 FY10 LIA Application Training Review Where does the funding come from? –USDA Federal SNAP funds –State, County, or Local Public Funds –Cash Donations in some cases Funds are to expand and enhance nutrition education provided for SNAP Participants in Arizona.

14 FY10 LIA Application Training Review Who qualifies? -City Governments -County Health Departments -Indian Tribal Organizations -Non-Profit Agencies -School Districts

15 FY10 LIA Application Training Review How much funding is available? –Is not capped or competitive. –Must submit applications for approval. –Limited by the Local Share funds available and program activities meeting USDA requirements.

16 FY10 LIA Application Training Review What will your program receive? Determine Local Share Funds used for allowable nutrition education activities serving SNAP eligible individuals for nutrition education purposes Eligible for reimbursement equal to 50% of the Local Share Budget

Money spent for staff time, equipment, materials, space, and other expenditures for nutrition education activities Public funds from state/local sources (not federal) and/or private donations meeting USDA criteria Indian Tribal Organizations may be able to use some federal funds (depending on wording of the federal program)

36 FY10 LIA Application Training LIA Program is Primary Prevention The LIA program is to help SNAP eligibles, through Nutrition Education and Promotion of Physical Activity, prevent or postpone the onset of diet-related chronic diseases by establishing more active lifestyles and better eating habits

37 FY10 LIA Application Training Question? What takes place with Secondary/ Tertiary Prevention? Ans: 1.Screening and Identification of people at risk for chronic diseases 2.Diet modification to assist people that have a disease Is this allowable for our program?

38 Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program- Education (SNAP-Ed) SNAP-Ed Behavioral Outcomes: Eat fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and fat free or low fat milk every day Be physically active every day as part of a healthy lifestyle Balance caloric intake from food and beverages with calories expended Other behavioral outcomes may be approved if justification is provided and approved by USDA.
