small temperature range Bodies of water in the north and south have a warming affect on the Ontario Region ex. Great Lakes causes moderately warm Summers and less severe Winters Less day/night temperature differences the climate factor Proximity to water affects the temperature range the land near larger bodies of water does not heat up or cool down as fast or as much as those far away from water

the Ontario region is located north of equator the sun’s rays have to pass through more atmosphere so the rays are less concentrated continental (dry) climate South of Ontario has heat waves lasting greater than one week (Windsor and Toronto) average temperature varies in different parts of the Ontario region average temperature by latitude is the same in cities west of Ottawa CityJanuaryAprilJulyOctober Sudbury-9ºC8ºC25ºC10ºC Ottawa-6ºC11ºC26ºC13ºC Toronto-3ºC12ºC27ºC14ºC Windsor-1ºC13ºC28ºC16ºC Average Maximum Daytime Temperatures

Both Northern and Southern Ontario have the coldest temperature in January Northern Ontario is colder than Southern Ontario all year round Northern Ontario has longer winters, which start in October and will not warm up until May

the Summer is the season of maximum precipitation due to the fact that most of the Ontario region is not near a large body of water cities near the Great Lakes will most likely have more precipitation then the rest of the region

average precipitation in southern Ontario is 800 to 1000mm because of the Great Lakes when warm air masses from the south and cold air masses from the north meet a high pressure system is produced this usually results in rain and thunderstorms in the summer in a belt lying inland from Lake Huron and Georgian Bay the heaviest snowfall occurs in one winter about 2 540mm of snow may fall

This climate graph shows that the season of maximum precipitation is in the summer the average temperature is 5.9º because the sun’s rays have to pass through a certain amount of atmosphere which is less then cities west of Ottawa Ottawa’s temperature is moderated by the Great Lakes

The season of maximum precipitation is in the summer Total precipitation in the city of Toronto is 790 mm Since the city is close to the Great Lakes the precipitation is moderated Average temperature in the city of Toronto is 8.9º Celsius

Overall the Ontario Region has very moderate temperature conditions The summers are hot and humid while the winters are cold On the average precipitation is moderate throughout all of the seasons The southern part of Ontario is warm enough to grow vineyards in the summer similar to the south of France Usually winters in Northern Ontario receive enough snow for winter recreational activities In general Ontario has variations of temperatures with the more extreme temperatures to the north and the moderate to the south
