Context –Various international organisations have undertaken the implementation of an ERM system several of these have presented their system at SIO meetings and shared their experience –Other international organisations are starting or about to start implementation of ERM systems these organisations have shown interest in learning from the experience of international organisations that have already implemented an ERM system
ERM Manual Context –The issue of (how to handle it, what needs to be filed, how it should be filed ie paper or electronic etc) has come up in various SIO meetings and is an issue that all international organisations have to deal with.
ERM Manual Purpose of Guide –Tool for international organisations to provide practical guidance when implementing an ERM system –Guide will focus in particular on the needs of international organisations
ERM Manual Target audience –SIO members –Other records managers and/or Archivist in international organisations planning to implement an ERM system
ERM Manual Proposed content –Needs analysis and requirements –Selection of software –Project management (composition of group, role of records manager, working with others etc) –Working with vendors –Development of software getting the software to work in an international organisation –Relations and communication with users –Training and support –Implementation follow-up
Proposed content - specific issues – which s are records? How should these be captured and stored? –Long term preservation of electronic records
ERM Manual How will guide be established? –Working Group composed of SIO members that have implemented ERM systems in an international organisation working group will report progress to SIO in newsletter or in annual meetings Records Managers of OECD, UNNY, WIPO and WHO indicated interest in participating in working group

ERM Manual Time frame –May - June establishment of working group –June November definition of content and communications among group members –January - ICA meeting first draft of guide –ICA meeting first draft will be circulated in advance of meeting and will be briefly discussed at meeting
