SMART Goals Specific Measurable Attainable / Achievable Relevant Time Bound

The Goal should be SPECIFIC enough so that you know exactly for what you are striving. Specific

A specific goal will usually answer the five "W" questions: WHAT: What do I want to accomplish? WHY: Specific reasons, purpose or benefits of accomplishing the goal. WHO: Who is involved? WHERE: Identify a location. WHICH: Identify requirements and constraints. Specific

A goal must be MEASURABLE. It should have concrete facts. You should be able to answer very specifically, when and how you will know you attained your goal. Measurable

A measurable goal will usually answer questions such as: How much? How many? How will I know when it is accomplished? Indicators should be quantifiable Measurable

Goals should be ACHIEVABLE. They should be realistic and attainable. They should stretch you so you feel challenged, but defined well enough so that you can achieve them. Achievable

An Achievable goal will usually answer the question: Can this goal be accomplished? Am I stretching to achieve this goal? Achievable

The goals must be RELEVANT. They need to be aligned with current tasks and projects and focus in defined area. Relevant

A relevant goal can answer yes to these questions: Does this seem worthwhile? Does this matter? Does this fit into the district goals? Does this match our other efforts/needs? Relevant

Goals have a clearly defined TIME-FRAME including a target or deadline date. Timely

A time-bound goal will answer the question: When?

 The goal was not written down.  Rewards for achieving the goals were not given.  The goal was unrealistic or not specific enough.  The goal is not really believable or little commitment exists. Why Goals Fail

 Keep changing or switching goals with the weather  The person who set the goal has not told anyone else for added accountability, help and support.  The goal was not SMART Why Goals Fail

Write down your goals. Place in visible place. Revisit goals. Reward self. How do you reach your goals ?

Let’s start dreaming. Let’s start setting goals.
