Inclusive transport for sustainable development Tom Rickert Executive Director, Access Exchange International UNDESA Forum July 19-20, 2013

The number of elderly persons and persons with disabilities is going to increase in most of the world. Along with everyone else, they are going to need public transport.

Fortunately, what helps seniors and persons with disabilities to ride helps everyone else to ride.

Everyone needs universal access to buses, trains, three- wheelers, sidewalks, pedestrian paths, and street crossings. Photos: India & Tanzania

A case study Kuala Lumpur A municipal government office with full-time staff consults with all interested parties to carry out access audits and to successfully promote access to bus, rail, van and taxi systems as well as public facilities and pedestrian ways.
