CYPRUS IN COMMONWEALTH GAMES

Commonwealth Games The Commonwealth Games is an international, multi-sport event involving athletes from the Commonwealth of Nations. The event was first held in 1930, and, with the exception of 1942 and 1946, which were cancelled due to World War II, has taken place every four years since then. Although there are 53 members of the Commonwealth of Nations, 71 teams participate in the Commonwealth Games, as a number of dependent territories compete under their own flag.

Cyprus is one of the 71 teams participating in the Commonwealth Games. First Cyprus participation was in 1978 in Edmonton. The 20 th Commonwealth games were held in Glasgow and Cyprus competed with 50 athletes in 10 different sports. 16 of them were members in the track and field team.
