KWANTLEN INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS  Kwantlen is proud to introduce a eighteen-day field school in Japan, which will provide students with a remarkable experience that focuses on: › Japanese language › Japanese culture  When: June 12 th – June 30 th, 2011

KWANTLEN INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS

 Students can register for a scheduled (May and June) language course and/or the introductory culture course, and complete the course(s) for the last week in Japan during the field school for credit  Students may join just the field school

KWANTLEN INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS  May 2 to June 9: regular class at Kwantlen Polytechnic University  June 12 to June 23: classes at Ryukoku University in Kyoto and field trips  June 24 and 25: Hiroshima  June 25 to June 30: Tokyo

KWANTLEN INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS  Kyoto › City tour with English guide Stops at Kiyomizu temple, the stone garden, Kinkakuji temple › Be partnered with a Ryukoku student for field trips in the city  Nara > All day City tour with English guide Stops at Horyuji temple, Daibutsu (big Buddha), and Nara Park  Hiroshima  Peace Memorial Museum  Tokyo › Visits to Meiji Shrine, Asakusa, Harajuku, Akihabara, Ghiburi Museum, etc.

KWANTLEN INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS  Flights (not included in the price) Depart as a group  Visas › As of January 31, 2011 Canadian citizens do not need visas to visit Japan for less than 90 days › Non-Canadians might require a visa to enter Japan. Non-Canadians should also check with Canadian Immigration to ensure that they will maintain their visa or permanent resident status while outside of Canada.

KWANTLEN INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS  Kyoto: University Seminar House (Japanese style room shared by 6 students) equipped with communal laundry and cooking facilities  Hiroshima: (twin room in a hotel)  Tokyo: Washington Hotel in Shinjuku (twin room)

KWANTLEN INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS  Program is estimated to cost $2100 not including flight and tuition and personal expenses.  A deposit of $250 will be required at the time of application and is non-refundable.  The outstanding amount owing will be due at the same time as the rest of your regular course fees. This date will be posted at: ›  A minimum of 11 students will be required for the program to go ahead. If the program is cancelled due to attendance, your $250 will be refunded.

KWANTLEN INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS  Students will need to fill out an application form and hand it in to the International Programs and Exchanges Office with their $250 deposit  Deposit cheques should be made out to Kwantlen Polytechnic University with a note: Japanese Field School.  Application form consists of general information page and a statement of interest.  Application deadline: › February 25 th, 2011

KWANTLEN INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS Expenses  Meals We recommend you budget at least $15 to $ 20 for food a day on most days. You can have breakfast at Tomoiki Seminar House. It has a dining area with a refrigerator, hot water for beverage, tea despenser and a toaster. A super market is just nearby for you to purchase food and beverage. Ryukoku University cafeterias offer a good selection of lunch items. You will be on your own for dinner. We expect to have meals out in Tokyo.

KWANTLEN INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS  Transportation (partial) Some transportation cost for the field trips in Kyoto The fee includes:  A 7-day ordinary JR pass which covers the trips by the Bullet Train and most of the trips via the Japan Rail system from June 24 to the end of the Field School. Note: A return trip from the seminar house to Ryukoku University (30 minutes) costs about ¥ 500.  A ¥3.000 prepaid card for the daily commute in Kyoto

KWANTLEN INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS  You need to be: › Nineteen years of age › A student in good standing  You do not need to: › complete a certain number of credits before you can go › currently be a Kwantlen student to attend
