Sunchem Holding Ltd AGRO –START CONFERENCE: TRANSNATIONAL CONFERENCE FOR SME BUSINESS SUPPORT SERVICES IN THE ANIMAL BREEDING AND HORTICULTURE SECTORS 14 November 2013, Sheraton Sofia Hotel Balkan, Sofia, Bulgaria Dr Francesco Di Lucia, agronomist PhD student (University of Molise)

Sunchem is a research and develop company operating in the sector of genetic and recombinant DNA applied to plant for energy and human purposes.

Mission To develop and promote new vegetable plants for genetic purposes respecting social and environmental sustainability. Vision To become, in the next 10 years, the global leader on the vegetable oil market for green energy purposes. Values Our key drivers are: - The industrial research focus on innovation - The sustainability

Sunchem wants to match the increasing energy requirements of farms, by promoting a tobacco plant cultivated for energy purposes advantages: Farmers: pay less energy for agricultural activities Environment: less CO 2 emission

Sunchem Holding Sunchem has selected some tobacco varieties for energy applications it is an oil crop (GMO free), With no nicotine content. Sunchem Holding holds the exclusive rights to exploit and develop worldwide of the new industrial patent “energy tobacco” (PCT/IB/2007/053412) The patent has been deposited in 119 countries and it has been granted in over 60 countries (USA, all African countries, Euro Asia, etc.)

Energy Tobacco Differently from tobacco plants for cigarettes, tobacco for energy maximizes the production of flowers and seeds The plant is extremely robust, able to grow in various climates and soils it can be cultivated on marginal lands which cannot be used for food production

Uses: crude oil (energy production, biodiesel and jet fuel for aviation) oil-cake (animal feed) biomass (electricity, biogas)

From 1 Ha cultivation of energy tobacco we could have an average of seed production of 2,5 to 3 tons of seed per harvest. We can manage, depend on climate condition, multiple harvests per year Seed contains around 40% of oil and after cold press we could have 33-34% of raw oil and 62% of protein cake. (1 harvest -> 1 tons of oil/Ha) We can manage the cultivation also for biomass in order to produce biogas integrated with seed production. (we can reach up to 35 tons of fresh biomass per harvest ) Tobacco performances

Role of Sunchem Support partners in developing the tobacco energy sector on site and enter in rotation crops in horticultural areas

Tecnical support Identify the best variety for each environment plant density fertilization Irrigation disease control weed control A technical team analysed the field characteristics and suggest the best practice to realize the best yield

Massimo Ghilardi (President) Dr Sergio Tommasini (Managing Director, Sunchem Holding Team Every join Company around the world has a specific team to follow-up the sunchem holding instructions The operational team: Nicola Fogher (Agro Technician) Dr. Francesco Di Lucia (Agronomist) Dr. Massimo Zuin (Agronomist) Prof. Milvio Avogadro (Engineering and Process) D.ssa Serena Reggi, PhD (Genetics) Dr. Stefano Gattolin, PhD (Genetics) Dr. Kiril Perfanov (Genetics) D.ssa Nicoletta di Norscia, PhD Student (expert on bio-energy field) Eng.
