Egypt Arts and Architecture By: David

Art Facts: Wood Ivory Gold Bronze Glass Smaller arts and crafts were made using: Painting and making sculptures were some arts in Egypt. Paintings on the inner walls of tombs gave us good information about Egyptians and Egypt.

Arts: Artists The works of artists show long years of apprenticeship. Tomb paintings are the finest achievements of ancient Egypt. Most Artists gave their art to religious buildings and it was used during ceremonies to honor gods and goddesses. Artists also gave a lot of their art to pharaohs and their officials.

Arts Egyptian art had a code that artists had to use when drawing people. People Code Egyptians were mostly interested in sculpture art. Egyptians paid more attention to the drawing of the art, not the color.

Architecture: Facts Pyramids were a great work of art and architecture. Pyramids were so sophisticated, we can’t even figure out how to build them anymore! Architecture was invented in Egypt around 2650 B.C. by Imhotep.

Architecture: On Pyramids Pyramids are still man’s best architectural achievement. Pyramids can be as tall as 482 feet (147m.) high and can tower over many famous landmarks, including the Statue of Liberty. The very first type of pyramid Egyptians made was called a step pyramid because on the outside it looked like steps and later it got smoother on the outside. Step pyramids were also called Ziggurats.

Architecture: On Sphinxes Sphinxes were large stone statues carved to protect important buildings and rooms. An amazing architectural statue called the Sphinx is a famous Egyptian landmark and has a total body length of 150 feet (45 m.)

Temple A temple is also another great work of architecture. Temples are very different from our temples (churches) because they were more special. For example, only upper class people could go in them. Also temples were built so big to show their respect to the gods. Architecture: Temples

One block of limestone weighs so much a big crane could barely pick one up! People wonder how Egyptians could push the blocks so close together that a knife blade couldn’t fit between two! People also wonder how Egyptians got the blocks all the way to the top and put the top on. Limestone
