UNC was founded in 1789 by William Richardson Davie. The oldest state University in the entire nation. Davie introduced a bill to charter a University in North Carolina after the state had ratified the constitution. 40 of the state’s most influential men were trustees in creating this elaborate University.

Many people believe that a Tar Heel is some sort of Ram. This is thanks to Vic Huggins, the head cheerleader in 1924 who claimed they needed a mascot like the Georgia Bulldog, and NC State Wolf. Jack Merrit was on the football team and known as the “Battering Ram”. He was very Popular and Miss Huggins felt that a ram should be their real life mascot in honor of him. So they ordered UNC’s first mascot from no where else but the state of Texas.

There are two stories behind the origin of the mascot. 1. The British soldiers during the revolutionary war realized while crossing North Carolina their feet became covered in tar. It is believed that the North Carolinians Dumped pine tar into the rivers to slow the invading British troops. The British troops claim that if you waded in the North Carolina Rivers you would get “Tar on your Heels”. 2. The second story dates back to the civil war. Where North Carolina troops became angry with their comrades for fleeing when the battle got hard. They threatened to put Tar on the Heels of the fleeing soldiers to keep them from retreating. General Robert E. Lee is quoted saying “God Bless those Tar Heel Boys!”

The university is known for many studies such as Law, medicine, Business executive Education, Human Values, etc. You can take classes abroad, on campus, or online. Carolina and its 14 satellite schools offer 77 bachelor degrees, 107 Master degrees, 69 doctorate degrees, and 6 professional degree programs.

O North Carolina is the place to be. If you don’t believe you just have to see. To go here is the chance of a lifetime. Trust me just try it out you’ll do fine. DO NOT be ignorant and settle for less. Attend UNC and be the best. UNC has everything to give. O boy does it teach you how to live. Don’t be set on KU or K-State. North Carolina is awesome no need for hate. Open your eyes. Carolina is the prize. You can study space, Or help save the Human race. Just another average day Whatta ya say? The best looking chicks are here too. I would never lie to you! So shoot for the sky And never forget Carolina is THE prize.

One of the most prestige program ever in college Basketball. Roy Williams is the present Head Coach. 5 National championships, 18 Final Fours, and a record 24 sweet sixteen's. Harrison Barnes is their best player this season. They will not win the NCAA title this year because they lost, simple as that, no excuses.

First Public University in the entire nation. The fire trucks in the city of Chapel hill are painted Carolina Blue. There are high quality golf courses on the campus and in the surrounding area. Outside of the college campus it is mainly suburbia in Chapel Hill.
