 Wind Ensemble  Symphonic Band  Jazz I  Jazz II  Jazz Combo  AP Music Theory  Panther Regiment (Marching Band)  Winterline (Drumline and Flag Team)

 Both Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band have earned Superior Ratings at District Festival (MPA) in 2006, 2007, 2008 and  Both Jazz Ensembles have earned Superior Ratings at District Festival (MPA) in 2007, 2008, 2009  Marching Band has won their class at least once in each of the following seasons: 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009.

 Marching Band has won a Grand Championship(s) in 2007 and  Marching Band was selected to represent North Carolina in the 2009 National Memorial Day Parade.  Wind Ensemble was selected as the only high school concert ensemble to perform at the 2009 North Carolina Music Educator’s Association In-Service Conference.

 Students have been selected to participate in All-District in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and  Students have been selected to participate in All-State in 2006, 2007, and  Students have been selected to participate in All-Region Jazz in 2006, 2007, 2008, and  Students have been selected to participate in All-State Jazz in 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009.

 Wind Ensemble is an audition only, advanced instrumental ensemble. This group routinely performs level V and VI literature from the North Carolina Bandmaster’s MPA list. This group uses the concept of one to a part in most sections. There is an expectation of high quality work coupled with strong commitment to the advancement of the ensemble. Students in this ensemble will find the transition to college playing very smooth. This ensemble meets for the full school year and students receive 2 credits.

 This instrumental ensemble is open to anyone who plays an approved instrument. Although not auditioned, this group achieves high quality work through strong work ethic and motivation. Students in this ensemble will generally perform music at a level IV and V from the North Carolina Bandmaster’s list. This ensemble meets for the full school year and students receive 2 credits.

 Both Jazz Ensembles or Big Bands meet during the instructional school day. Students who are in Wind Ensemble form Jazz I while students in Symphonic Band form Jazz II. These ensembles meet approximately once a week during class. During such time non-jazz musicians focus on chamber ensembles such as French Horn choir, Flute Ensemble, Clarinet Ensemble and Percussion Ensemble to name a few.

 This group meets before school during the fall and generally after school during the winter and spring. A calendar is provided at the beginning of the school year. Students receive an academic credit for this zero period class. Students will study the art of improvisation, the history/journey of jazz, and perform in a small combo for several area functions throughout the year.

 The Panther Regiment (marching band) meets after school during the fall. There are summer commitments as well. Generally, there are 2-3 rehearsals per week. The Regiment performs at all home football games, select away games, local holiday parades and 3-5 competitions per season. There is a huge time commitment with this ensemble, however a calendar is provided in the spring of each school year. Students may opt to take this course for academic credit or for transcript credit only. There is a fee involved with this course. While this ensemble is not required, it is highly recommended to all students in the band program.

GO PANTHERS!!! Orange Panther Regiment performs At all home football games

The Panther Regiment travels across the region to perform at competitions each fall.

Each year students interview or audition for numerous leadership roles in the Panther Regiment. Unlike many area groups, the OHS Panther Regiment thrives because of it’s extensive student leadership program.

You can audition to be part of one of the most accomplished concert groups in the region. Perform at a college level, before you get there.

Whether it’s in the band room, on the road, or just hanging out, you will make connections that will last a lifetime. You will instantly have over 100 other students who share common interests. The transition to high school is nearly seamless after the friends you make during summer marching camps.

Students will learn the value of hard work and dedication. A commitment to excellence is more than a saying, it is truly how we function everyday. Students are encouraged to take the work habits learned through band and apply them to their other classes as well as other aspects of their lives.
