Lesson 3A: We will learn about changes in lifestyle for the middle class during the 1920’s. Do Now: Technology & inventions: 1.) Choose an invention that you see used on a daily basis and describe its function. 2.)Describe how that invention can improve our lives. 3.)Explain how we as people may have functioned before this invention.

1.In 1920, what appliances on this list did less than 10% of American families have in their homes? 2.What pattern emerges from this chart from 1920 – 1930? 3.Which appliances (on this list or not) would you be shocked NOT to be found in almost all American homes today? 4.Independent writing task: In a journal entry, write how the middle-class American home changes from 1920 – 1930 (minimum 100 words). Be descriptive, using proper sentence structure and grammar.

Lesson 3B: We will learn about how the automobile had an impact on our nation DO NOW – do not copy. Answer in notebook Warm Up: If YOU were there… “You have been working in a car factory for years, and now you have finally bought a car of your own- a shiny new 1920 Ford Model T. As you set out on your first drive, the car rattles and bounces over unpaved roads that were designed for horse and buggy travel. But you don’t mind the rough ride. You now have the freedom to drive anywhere you want to go! How will owning a car change your life?

Henry Ford established the assembly line to manufacture the affordable Model T automobile. And thanks to installment buying, many Americans could now buy cars without paying the full price up front. Model T - Automobile Three major impacts on society 1. Allowed mobility - owners could experience life beyond their backyards and immediate homes. 2. New industries emerged - road building, gas stations and auto mechanic garages. 3. Rural areas of America became less isolated
