International Student Competition «Golden Compass»

Presentation for the Participants of the Competition

About the Competition  «Golden Compass» - is the unique project in the modern educational space that united students, lecturers and business representatives from many countries of the world for the purpose of forming highly qualified staff.  Foundation Year –  Competition Organizer – Simon Kuznets Kharkiv National University of Economics.  Motive (idea of the competition) – forming of the professional competences among the students of the following directions of training: business, management (marketing), advertising and communications, computer science.  Participation – is free.

Mission and Targeting  Mission – forming of the professional elite in the sphere of business, management (marketing), advertising and communications, computer science.  Targeting – informational platform for professional acquaintances, sharing the experience and unique practical knowledge, establishing of cooperation between students, lecturers and business representatives.

Competitive Advantages  Up-to-date and trend topics.  Competitors execute real, not virtual projects.  Jury members – are representatives of business exclusively.  Contest – is the team competition.  The International Business Forum in the field of effective solutions «BRAND.COM» is carried out in the framework of the Competition.

Competition Participants  During the existence of the Competition, over 2000 participants from 83 universities, academies and institutes of 9 countries of the world took part in it.  During 7 years of its existence the Competition was attended by 2420 students, lecturers and specialists.

Competition Topics Each year the organizers suggest a new topic to develop a competition project:  2007 – «Mobile Market»;  2008 – «Banking Services Market»;  2009 – «Insurance Services Market»;  2010 – «Metropolis as a Brand»;  2011 – «Ukraine as Brand»;  2012 – «University as Brand»;  2013 – «ECO-TREND-2013»;  Information technology: products and services.

Awards  The participants of the contest which have not reached the final, will receive a Certificate of Participant.  The finalists receive the diplomas of Participant of Final, testifying to the high results, shown at the Competition, and getting in the short-list.  The prize-winners receive the diplomas for the ІІ and ІІІ places, and the winner – diploma for the І place, «Golden Compass» statuette and a special cake.  All the finalists have an opportunity to win some contest nominations and nominations suggested by the jury members, to be invited for an in-depth training or job in their company.  All the finalists receive valuable and memorable presents from the competition partners.

Undoubtedly, the organizers of this initiative, managed to create a powerful educational platform that provides a continuity of experience between different generations of PR experts and professionals in advertising sphere». Oksana Todorova, President of Corporate Media Association of Ukraine: «The Competition «Golden Compass» has passed the qualitative evolution. From the format “festival at the department” and “training platform for the future PR-experts” it grew into the platform for the serious and complex practical training of future professionals in the sphere of communication. Today the real companies and existing brands are considered in the competition projects, and many participants managed to go from training-virtual plane to practical work”.

Season 2014/15  Topic: «Youth projects: initiatives, events, associations, business».  Directions: PR-projects/PR-support; Advertising Campaign/Advertising Support Start Up projects.  Languages*: Ukrainian, Russian, English. * If it is necessary the interpreter may work with you.

Team Composition  No more than 10 participants and 2 supervisors (year of study, qualification level of preparation (Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree) and specialty are of no importance).  One team may submit no mare than one project for each direction.  The quantity of teams from the University is not limited.

Schedule  Acceptance of applications– up to November 25,  Preliminary stage (without participants’ presence) – November 1, January 12,  Assessment of the projects and determination of the finalists – up to January 26,  Informing on results of the preliminary stage and the final composition of the participants (top 10 teams in each direction) - February 1,  Final Stage – February 1, 2015 – April 10,  Final – April 22-24,  The Final will take place in Simon Kuznets Kharkiv National University of Economics – Ukraine, Kharkiv, prospect Lenina, 9-А, metro station «Naukova».
