HEAD START: LODI UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT Board of Education June 16,

HEAD START – A New Beginning! As a result of the findings of reforms and fiscal and academic mismanagement across the country, long-standing Head Start grantees lost their funding. New organizations and entities were invited to submit grants to become Head Start grantees. The San Joaquin County Office of Education was successful in this endeavor, allowing Lodi Unified to become a direct provider of Head Start services and programs for children who qualify within the school district boundaries under the supervision and direction of the School Readiness/Pre School Department. This exciting yet challenging undertaking will both enhance our existing preschool programs and bring quality of service, consistency of program, and fiscal and program compliance to Head Start within our district. 2
