Region 2 Education Sector Examples of projects in execution Basic Education for the Young and the Adults in Nicaragua Approved in IDB: $10 million. Total: $10 million. Goods and equipment: Procurement of didactic materials, books and computer equipment. Consultants’ services: Support in financial and administrative management. Community Education in Mexico Approved in IDB: $210 million. Total$ 350 million. The objective of the project is to improve the coverage, quality and efficiency of education services offered by the National Council for Education Development to the population living in poor, isolated areas where formal education system services are unavailable. Consultants : a) design an education program which includes monitoring and evaluation systems; b) design and production of teaching materials; d) training of technical teams and educators.

Region 2 Education Sector Examples of Approved Project 2 Continue from the previous slide. Goods and Equipment: a) Procurement of furniture and school equipment (computer and solar panels); b) teaching materials and text books. Civil Works: The program will finance construction of 930 education spaces, 645 sanitary facilities, 687 latrines, and 54 library areas in addition to rehabilitation of 2,091 education spaces, 306 sanitary facilities, 114 latrines and 15 library areas.

Region 2 Education Sector Examples of projects in execution Institutional Strengthening of Education Sector in Honduras Approved in IDB: $23 million. Total: 29.6 million. The program seeks education improvement through the reform of third-level basic education in rural areas and the institutional strengthening of the Ministry of Education. Consultants : (The Organization of Ibero-American States supports the Ministry in the administration of this project). a) Preparation of development plans; b) support in the implementation of the project: c) monitoring and evaluations; d) training of educators and more. Goods and Equipment: Procurement of libraries, text books, educational technology, furnishings, equipment, satellite dishes, audio visuals and solar panels. Civil Works: Rehabilitation and small-scale constructions required.

Region 2 Education Sector Examples of Pipeline Projects 1 Consultants’ services: Procurement for institutional evolution and accreditation of new institution. IDB: $34 million. The objective of this program is to promote the quality improvement and equity to higher education. In addition, the program aims to promote the area of science and technology. It has three subprograms: improvement in higher education; establishment of a national system of Excellency in science and technology; and strengthening of the new Secretary of Higher Education, Science and Technology. Enhancement of Superior Education, Science and Technology in the Dominican Republic

Examples of Pipeline Projects 2 IDB: $1.5 million. Total: 1.8 million. Consultants’ Services: will be hired to perform the mapping of the Education infrastructure. Vocational Education in Haiti IDB: $22 million. Total: $24.5 million. The program consists of three components: a) governance; b) technical and professional training; and c) primary training. Anticipated Procurement: Consultants would be hired to provide technical assistance in the area of curriculum development and institutional strengthening, as well as to train teachers. Civil works would include rehabilitation of schools and educational infrastructure. An engineering consultants could be contracted to supervise studies and works to be done by firms. Educational materials and equipment would be purchased. Mapping of the Education Sector and Education Policies in Guatemala

Examples of Pipeline Projects 3 Competency-Based HH RR Development in Mexico IDB: $70 million. Total: $100 million. Consultants’ services: The program will hire consultant services for curriculum development. Acquisition of goods: Procurement of computer equipment and didactic materials. This project aims to improve quality and efficiency of technical education in Mexico, by means of making technical education more pertinent with respect to the needs of the productive sector. The project will achieve the above by updating and generating additional competency-based technical norms under the private sector leadership, which will stand as reference to the ongoing transformation of the study plans within the schools.

Examples of Pipeline Projects 4 Technology to Support Education (Enciclomedia) IDB: $130 million. Total: $200 million. This program would support the development of a new pedagogical denominated Enciclomedia. This would consist of the digitalization in CD-ROM of textbooks of the difference subjects for the primary level with connections from the Encarta enyclopedia (Microsoft) and other sources. The government has predicted the equipment and the introduction of the Enciclomedia in all the classrooms of primary education of the country. The program would support this national initiative in the development of the instrument, in the strategy of implementation, and the equipping of schools in marginalized and rural zones urban.
