Intro From Monica Welcome, today we are going to learn about 2-digit subtraction…

Objectives It is important to learn subtraction of numbers with multiple digits because it is used every day. By the end of this program you will learn the steps for subtracting 2-digit numbers and learn where you may use these skills in everyday experiences.

Learning 2-digit subtraction

Given a problem

Subtract down starting with ones

Another problem using borrowing

Borrowing Notice when we start subtracting the ones 2-5 can not be done. We know that 1 ten is the same as 10 ones.

Showing 1 ten equals 10 ones

Continuing back to show subtraction So we can then borrow 1 ten from the tens place making it 6 tens. Then give those 10 ones to the ones column so we have 10 ones plus 2 ones is 12 ones. 12 – 5 is 7. Now we can subtract our tens column. 6-4=2.

Practice Temperature Grocery Store Formatting Create your Own Exit

Formatting Given word problem: John has 31 toy cars. He is very nice and wants to give 12 of his cars to his little brother. How many cars will John have left? Set up the correct format and subtract. Practice

Create your Own Choose 2 of these numbers and subtract one from the other. Remember where the larger number goes! 62, 37, 56, 28 Practice

Temperature Its one of those crazy Fall days where the temperature is hot in the day but cold at night. Lets figure out what the difference in temperature is going to be for today. Lets look at the weather report to see. The high is 82 The low is 57 Practice

Grocery Store Lets go shopping! We have $42 in our pocket. Select a few items you would like to buy. We will be finding out how much money we have left after our shopping trip. Practice Apples: $6 Carrots: $8 Cereal $11 Bread: $7
