Matthew’s Messianic Hope from Isaiah  The Birth Narrative (Matt 1:18–25)  Matt 1:21–23. “She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” 22 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet: 23 “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel [Isa 7:14; cf. 8:8, 10].”

 John’s Announcement (Matt 3:1–3)  Matt 3:1–3. In those days John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness of Judea, 2 “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” 3 For this is he who was spoken of by the prophet Isaiah when he said, “The voice of one crying in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord; make his paths straight [Isa 40:3].’”

 Isaiah’s Mission of Judgment (ch. 6)  Isa 6:13. “And though a tenth remain in it, it will be burned again, like a terebinth or an oak, whose stump remains when it is felled.” The holy seed/offspring is its stump.
