Presentation transcript:

How do medical illustration authors hook and hold readers? Medical illustrators hook and hold readers through the use of pictures Some of the pictures could be fun to look at and sort of cartoony Also there is not that much writing with the pictures so it is easy to read By making the pictures big and noticeable, the reader will probably want to find out what the picture is of and read the passage with it. Hooking readers involves raising questions and engaging them emotionally. (“Create a First Paragraph that Will Hook Your Reader”) “Some images create a strong emotional reaction in your reader, which creates a much more receptive mindset for your persuasive copy.” (“Three Sticky Ways to Hold Reader Attention”)

Can an illustration tell you as much as written text? “A picture tells a story just as well as a large amount of descriptive text.” ("A picture is worth a thousand words.“) “By providing direct instruction on the art and craft of the graphic novel, students develop an appreciation for how visual elements such as color, perspective, and point of view manipulate the viewer's emotions and influence their comprehension of various subjects.” (Schwarz, )

What does it take to be a medical illustrator? Most medical illustrators have a masters degree You have to take an advanced course in human anatomy with dissection and you may have to take pathology, microanatomy, physiology, embryology, and neuroanatomy, and a specialized applied art courses such as surgical illustration. (“Education – Association of Medical Illustrators”) Some of the art courses may include color theory, instructional design, photography, interactive media development, 3-D modeling, web design, and the traditional drawing and computer applications. Most programs require a thesis or research paper. Students in high school should take classes to do with art and sciences. Need to be a good artist and have good knowledge of human and animal bodies. (“Medical Illustrator”)

How could medical illustration affect the way people learn? Through the use of pictures it could be easier to learn better and faster. There is not much text which makes it easy to read and easy to understand. Through the visual learning aspect of the pictures. (“The Effect of Visual Aids on Learning”) The pictures make the text easier to understand and follow. (“Top Ten Learning Points - Using Visual Aids.”)

How accurate are the pictures drawn? The pictures are drawn very accurately They provide a good visual aid to what you are reading and make it much easier to understand Some of the pictures are sort of cartoony and fun Medical illustrators must take art classes and science classes to fully understand what to draw. (“Education – Association of Medical Illustrators”) “Medical illustration is just one of the several classifications of illustrations that are designed to provide superior accuracy and clarity to any piece of medical writing.” (“Info on Medical Illustration”)

What do medical illustrators do? Medical illustrators are professional artists who specialize in medicine, science, art, design, visual technology, media techniques, and in theories related to communication, learning and management. (“Career – Association of Medical Illustrators”) They take complicated information and turn it into a picture so it is easier to understand and learn. They use visual aspects of learning through their pictures. “Medical illustrators work closely with physicians and scientists. They produce visually driven content for journals, books, magazines, advertising, film, television, web, interactive and mobile media, virtual reality, exhibits, demonstrative evidence, and presentations.” (“Medical Illustrator”)

How does visual aid help how well people learn? Many people will learn better if there is pictures involved with the writing. Pictures help to better understand what the person is reading, and they will understand it faster. “Visual aids should be used to reiterate and reinforce core ideas the presenter is delivering.” (“Top Ten Learning Points - Using Visual Aids.”) “The potential for learning greatly increases when educators use visual aids in the classroom.” (“The Effect of Visual Aids on Learning”)
