What is the purpose of advertising? To attract new buyers and try to expand customer base To compete in the market To create an organization's recognition among consumers To promote subsidiary products manufactured by the same company To bring into notice the changes, special offers or current developments of the interest of the consumers To increase the sale of a particular product

Key terms Advertising – a public promotion of a product or service Marketing - the process through which goods and services move from concept to the customer Press advert – an advert that appears in a printed form e.g. newspaper, magazine Screen advert – an advert that appears on screen e.g. TV, cinema Viral advert - using social networks to increase brand awareness via images, text messages, videos on YouTube, etc.

Key terms Target audience – who the product is aimed at Brand - the identity of a specific product, service, or business Brand building – enhancing a brand’s popularity through advertising campaigns and sponsorship of events. Return on Investment (ROI) – the amount each unit costs after subtracting marketing costs e.g. if 20,000 X Boxes (costing £200 each) are sold as a result of a TV ad that cost £150,000 the ROI would be £26.67 for each unit (console). Please remember this doesn’t take manufacturing costs into account
