Waste Wise Events Waste Wise Events are designed to care for the environment by reducing the amount of waste they generate and by recovering resources from waste that has been generated.

Waste Wise Events The enjoyment of an event is greatly enhanced when it is held in a clean attractive environment. Hosting or coordinating a Waste Wise Event helps maintain the environment.

Waste Wise Events Holistic management of waste at events or venues can be achieved by following the 7 steps to a Waste Wise Event

Waste Wise Events Step 1 - Commitment Agree to become a “Waste Wise Event. Involve all stakeholders, vendors, caterers, contractors and cleaners

Waste Wise Events Step 2 - Packaging Require suppliers and caterers to minimise packaging –and use materials that are: –Recyclable –Compostable –Biodegradable

Waste Wise Events Enviro Packaging

Waste Wise Events Step 3. - Equipment use the right equipment for the waste types and volumes that are to be collected ensure equipment used is consistent

Waste Wise Events Step 4 – Management Systems match the waste management system to the equipment and packaging installation location/position clearing responsibility

Waste Wise Events Step 5 - Signage Without the right signage, people will not know what and where to recycle. It is important that: –standard signage and colours only are used –signage is consistent –signage is visible

Waste Wise Events Standard recycling signage and colours used at events

Waste Wise Events Step 6 - Communication & Promotion Pre-event – suppliers, caterers, vendors, waste contractor, public, sponsors On The Day – ensure everyone knows how to use the system Post Event – acknowledge achievements and inform media of successes ( after step 7 )

Waste Wise Events Step 7 - Evaluation Evaluations allow: –benchmarking –cost / benefit analysis –Identification of any required changes in equipment or approach

Waste Wise Events Question Time Thank you – Chris Jeffreys, Project Officer
