Earth’s Water Chapter 5 Lesson 2

Vocabulary Fresh Water Ocean

Questions What did you need water for this morning? Why is it important to keep Earth’s water clean? Why is it important not to waste water? How can people use less water?

Why is Earth’s Water Important? We use water everyday. Living things could not survive without water. Human bodies are made up of about 72% water.

Why is Earth’s Water Important? Fresh water is water that is not salty. Fresh water is found in lakes, ponds, streams and rivers. Not all lakes have fresh water.

Fresh Water Supply Dams help supply fresh water to towns or cities. Before we use water it must be cleaned.

Where is Most of Earth’s Water Found? Three quarters (3/4) of Earth’s water is found in salty ocean water. An ocean is a large, deep body of salt water. Many living things live in oceans.

Fresh Water Only 3% of Earth’s water is fresh water. It is important that we take good care of our fresh water.

Answer me this… How do plants and animals use water? Plants need water to grow. Animals drink water to stay alive and bathe in water. How do living things use the ocean? Some plants and animals live in the ocean. People fish, swim, and snorkel in the ocean.
