A new grant opportunity: Supports consortiums of three U.S. presenters that engage up to three professional U.S. jazz ensembles (2-10 musicians each) to perform a minimum of one public concert at each presenter’s venue. This program is made possible by the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation. What is Presenter Consortium for Jazz?

One Lead Presenter and Two Presenter Partners A consortium consists of:

is based in the U. S. or its territories; is a 501(c)(3) organization or otherwise eligible for charitable contributions; is a CMA Organization-level member; and has no overdue reports or financial obligations to CMA. A presenter is eligible if it:

is based in the U.S. or its territories; consists of 2–10 professional musicians (student groups are not eligible); and includes improvisation as an integral part of its composition and performance. A jazz ensemble is eligible if it:

Each presenter must be a CMA-Organizational member Ensembles need not be CMA members CMA Membership?

The consortium presenters may be located within the same state, but must be at least 50 miles apart. Local, regional or national?

Presenters and ensembles may be engaged in only one Presenter Consortium for Jazz application. Any limit?

The consortium may work together to create a single program that travels to each venue or Each partner may curate its own separate program(s) or Partners may design other alternatives Designing a project

The CD-R Work Sample consists of a single track of music per ensemble. For a project with one ensemble, complete Track 1 only. Preparing your audio

Each track may include up to 2 works by 1 ensemble. For an application with 1 ensemble, place up to 2 works by the ensemble on Track 1 and leave Tracks 2 and 3 blank. One or more works per track

You may feature up to 5-minutes of music per track. Music may be edited and/or excerpted Provide a cue time for the second work on a track, if applicable Track length

Each consortium partner may request up to 75% of the eligible expenses: concert fees travel housing per diem cartage the presenter’s marketing and production costs Doing the Math

Each presenter partner must demonstrate earned and contributed income = at least 25% of its total eligible expenses In-kind revenue may not be used as part of the match Your 25% match

Each presenter partner may request up to a maximum of $10,000 ($30,000 per consortium) Your CMA request

A $1,000 incentive/partner is available to consortium members if a CMA New Jazz Works grantee ensemble performs its CMA- commissioned work in its entirety. It is not necessary for all three partners to choose this option. Opting for an incentive

operating budget for the year in which the performance(s) will take place; recent audited financial statement, or IRS Form 990 or 990EZ; publicity and press material marketing sample; 501(c)(3) IRS tax-exempt determination letter or equivalent; a memorandum of understanding between each presenter in consortium and each ensemble, and one CD-R Work Sample. Each of the three partners completes a Presenter Application. The two presenter partners send their application and supplemental materials to the Lead Partner. The Lead Presenter prepares the Consortium Summary and the CD-R Work Sample, assembles the complete application package, and submits the materials to CMA on behalf of consortium. Who does what?
