BOOK PROJECT #1 Instructions for summative project for Mrs. Fendrick’s Language Arts and Reading Class

Character Traits Book Project Objectives to completely read and demonstrate comprehension of a grade-level book to analyze the book’s characters and provide evidence to support identified traits Nebraska Language Arts Standards: g, j, k, m, o

Character Traits Book Project Choose a chapter book from the Davis library. The book must not have been made into a movie. The book must have a main character. Do not use short story collections or poetry. Ask the teacher if you have questions about your choice.

Character Traits Book Project Materials: your book character traits list Planning Guide Checklist of Requirements (this will also be your grade sheet) Body Biography (main sheet)

Character Traits Book Project Begin reading your book for 30 minutes or more each day. Identify the main characters and choose your favorite. Identify this character’s traits. Find evidence to back up your ideas. Fill in your planning guide. Use the checklist. While you read:

Character Traits Book Project Prepare your Body Biography. Complete all blanks. Decorate the body outline to look like your character. Use colorful pencils, markers or other art supplies to draw your character. Do not scribble. The picture needs to show good effort.

Character Traits Book Project Proofread. Make sure your name is on each page. Check your spelling and punctuation. The project is due by Monday, Sept. 28. You will earn a summative grade. Turn in all three pages.
