What Works? Key elements of an effective physical activity program, according to the Task Force on Community Preventive Services: Social support in community settings including worksites for supporting new healthy behavior: “buddy” systems, making a “contract” with others to reach certain levels of physical activity, organizing exercise groups for companionship and support Setting goals for physical activity and self-monitoring of progress toward goals Flexibility for individual adaptation : allowing participants to set their own goals and choose the type(s) of physical activity to undertake based on their own level of physical ability and other personal circumstances SOURCE: The Guide to Community Preventive Services (

Why Active for Life? Key elements of an effective physical activity program: Social Support Setting Goals & Self- Monitoring Individual Adaptation

Why Active for Life? It’s Effective Effectiveness of AFL to increase activity: 30-40% increase in time spent being active 20-25% increase in proportion of participants meeting recommended physical activity guidelines At baseline, 1/4 of participants were not active at all. The biggest changes were employees who went from inactive or seldom active (24% at baseline) to meeting recommended physical activity guidelines (93% at 10 week follow-up). 23 How to Access Active for Life Once a Participant is Registered

Fightcancer.org After initial registration, participants will first need to login to fightcancer.org prior to AFL login; At this page, participants enter company specific password.

Active for Life Login Encourage participants to make note of the username and password they use at registration as it will ease process of troubleshooting down the road.

TROUBLESHOOTING

Computer Configuration Issue ‘ User’s Application Corrupts Registration URL The URL contains information about the role of the participant, team captain or member, and which team they belong to. Some platforms block the information from being passed to the AFL System. Without this information, the system doesn't know where to put the registrant and cannot complete the registration process. In most cases, this issue causes the AFL system to default to the FightCancer.org login screen. Solution - Instead of clicking on the URL while inside the , copy and paste it into an internet explorer browser before activating it

Computer Configuration Issue ‘ Registration URL Arrives Fragmented in Invitation Some systems chop the URL in half when the comes in, and unfortunately only the first half is underlined and looks like a URL. It is very easy to miss the rest of it because it is on the next line (sometimes there is also a blank line between the two pieces) and is not underlined. A good way to spot that the URL has been broken in half is that the first half ends in "asp" or "asp?” This is NOT what the URL should end with - it should end with a bunch of numbers and letters. This problem usually causes the registrant to get a "system not available" type of error message. Solution – Delete the blanks between the two pieces to merge them back together before activating.

Computer Configuration Issue Pop-Up Blocker Interferes with Online Registration Process The registration information is captured through a series of WebPages, and sometimes the blockers will not allow the next page to come up. This problem also usually causes the registrant to get a "system not available" type of error message. Solution – To check and make sure the blocker is off, click on "Tools" on the IE browser toolbar and hover over "Pop-up Blocker". An option will appear to the right that indicates whether you can turn the blocker on or off, depending on whether it was on or not originally. We want it to say "Turn On Pop-up Blocker".

Reporting Problems - Information Needed Without enough info, we’re troubleshooting in the dark. Helpful Information to include when reporting a problem: User’s name as entered in AFL User’s password as entered in AFL User’s address Company name Team name (if applicable) Description of issue/problem Steps taken that resulted in problem The exact error message or a screenshot Upfront info makes troubleshooting easier and faster!
