Lesson 5.12 EbD Application of Core Curriculum 1 ® ®

Essential Question: ® How would my project fit with what I need to learn in Science, Mathematics, Engineering and Technology?

Lesson 5.12 Application of Core Curriculum Overview 3. Standards and the Flow Chart 2. NGSS- applied to the project 1.Class Basics Notebook Line of Learning NGSS and Common Core Standard ® 4. Reflection

Prepare your notebook Table of contents ®

Line of Learning Lesson 5.12 – Application of Core Curriculum Question: What standards will I be learning through this project? date ®

Standards Statement ® Students will computational thinking to be able to understand the how to design the project and how it meets the needs of the community. Standards: NGSS HS. Engineering Design HS-ETS1-3, ETS1.b- CC Mathematic Computational Thinking – HS-ETS 1-4

What are Standards?  What are standards and why are they used?  How are the Next Generation Standards different from state content standards?  What is the Performance Expectation Statement?  What are Crosscutting Concepts?  What is the clarification statement? ® For a project to be Service-Learning, it has to be aligned to core curriculum.

What are Standards?  What are the Disciplinary Core Ideas?  How are the English Language Arts and Mathematics standards connected? ®

Reflection: Why should students understand standards? ®

Next Generation Science Standards Do you think the NGSS will impact your education? What are your reasons for your response? ®

Flow Chart to help you organize your project What were the tasks that were identified and the order of completion that would move the project to completion? Break down the tasks into specific steps and use the new flow chart 5.1 to document these specific steps. Discuss with your team the steps to confirm the order of the steps and their importance for the stakeholders. Create your chart and secure in your notebook as an artifact for your project. ®

Alignment of Academic Standards Flow Chart  Examine the flow chart that you have already created.  Expand the flow chart of your project to determine what skills you will be learning and to what standard it applies.  Remember: YOU are taking control of your own learning.  Your flow chart will change as you go from the initial planning to a more detailed design of the project, but it is essential to have a start. ®

Social, Cultural or Environmental Issues?? Are there any social, cultural or Environmental issues that have not already been address in past work? ®

Questions?? ® ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

Reflection Have you?  Evaluated the project flow chart and align the tasks with academic standards?  Evaluated any additional issues that relate to social, cultural or environmental needs in the community?  Evaluate data from different sources to determine if it was authentic and valid and how it related to the standards, their project and their learning? ®
