Presentation transcript:

Welcome to this session of Transition Assessments Transition assessment is an ongoing process of collecting information on the student’s strengths, needs, preferences, and interests as they relate to the demands of current and future living, learning, and working environments. The process should begin in middle school (age 14) and continue until the student graduates or exits high school.

Enderle-Severson Transition Rating Scale (ESTR)

The ESTR scales provide informal, criterion-referenced assessment of transition-related skills demonstrated by the student.

What does ESTR assess? Employment (working) Recreation and Leisure (interests) Home Living (living) Community Participation (living) Post Secondary Education (learning)

ESTR offers: Parental input Student input Teacher input

ESTR scales are designed to help in the development of the IEP by: Developing student post-secondary expectations Developing a Course of Study Developing a Statement of Needed Transition Services Developing Annual Goals and short term objectives

How does it work? The ESTR scales should be completed by an informant /s who know the student well. (teacher, and parent). Once you complete the teacher form and retrieve the parent form you are set to enter the information in the online report generator. For access to the report generator go to

How does it work ? (continued) Enter your Username and Password (one will be provided for you). Transfer the information to the Online Report Generator.Online Report Generator. Reports should be saved from online to your computer. You may then print a copy for your staffing.

Benefits of ESTR Takes only a few minutes to generate answers to important transition questions. Professionally prepared document to use at the student’s IEP staffing.

The teacher assessment form, “cover page”. The scores do not need to be computed by the parent or the teacher when using the online report generator.

Sample parent questions

Sample: Postsecondary Expectation (ESTR-J student section)

New Additional Form ESTR-S is a transition plan for students with severe/multiple impairments (SMI).

You can use the information / data to incorporate into the IEP (page B) Example: –Information Sources – ESTR-J –Results- Employment 38%, concerns : job interview skills, punctuality, unaware of factors that affect retention, firing and promotion on a job.

Just one of many transition assessments to use for students ages 14 and above!
