Thesis Statement Basically we all have the same skeleton of a thesis statement: Both Kafka and Clifton (Le Guin, Vonnegut, etc.) are saying THIS. THIS = your theme statement If you still don’t know what THIS is then we need to talk! Craft your thesis statement on a notecard. I will collect this in 30 minutes and begin initial conferences.

Components of your Thesis A.a nod to the difference in perspective B.Theme (the common idea found in both pieces) C.a nod to HOW the authors approached the idea. Example: Despite the unimaginable difference in backgrounds, both Kafka and Mullen caution readers that conformity is a form of imprisonment by illustrating two opposing scenarios.

Outline This is due at the end of class on Wednesday. This must be typed! The more you plan WHAT you are trying to say, the more we can focus on HOW to say it when it comes time to start writing a draft. Friday will be a drafting day. Your writing will be more clear and better developed.
