 More than 1/3 of adult Americans are obese.  Obesity-related conditions include heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and certain types of cancer, some of the leading causes of preventable death.  In 2008, medical costs associated with obesity were estimated at $147 billion; the medical costs for people who are obese were $1,429 higher than those of normal weight.

 8 out of the top 10 states with obesity problems are in the South o How does obesity contribute to America’s decline?  Obesity is the #2 cause of preventable death in the United States  60 million Americans, 20 years and older are obese (over 300 mill people in U.S.)  9 million children and teens ages 6-19 are overweight

  The number of complaints related to race and ethnicity filed against colleges and universities rose to 860 in 2013 from 555 in 2009, according to the Office for Civil Rights at the federal Education Department.  Racial tension is the dark side of the land of the free and the home of the brave. The fact that it hasn't torn us apart in 236 years is encouraging; the fact that it won't go away disheartening. How divided are we?  Obama and Romney’s speeches are more negative than any other towards the other party.  Candidates reference the other candidate twice as much during speeches as what their own beliefs are.  The divide is growing between these two parties.  Will they ever see eye to eye on social issues?  Millions of dollars goes towards negative advertising. Is it effective?
