History CAP was created 01 Dec, 1941 by Fiorello La Guardia. WWII Missions: Liaison, sub patrols, cargo/courier duties, air search and rescue CAP was designated official U.S. Air Force Auxiliary 26 May, 1948 Assigned non-combat missions for U.S. Air Force including search and rescue

Organization Civilian auxiliary organized along USAF structure. National Headquarters at Maxwell AFB / CAP-USAF Senior Advisor Eight Geographical Regions CAP Region Headquarters USAF Region Liaison Office 52 Wings divided into groups, squadrons, and flights HQ, Florida Wing, Mac Dill AFB, FL USAF State Director Liaison - Orlando, FL

Missions Cadet Programs Aerospace Education Emergency Services Search and Rescue Disaster Relief / Humanitarian Services Counter-drug Air Force Support CAP/ROTC Initiative

Emergency Services 85% of all inland search and rescue in the U.S. through AFRCC Assisted in the search for a missing USAF A-10 in Colorado in April 1997 Missing aircraft search- Lake Okeechobee -Dec. 1998 Provide disaster relief service to local, state, and federal agencies Assisted during Hurricane Andrew (1992), Opal (1996), Mitch (1998), Floyd (1999) Provided communications relay for Forestry Service - Florida Wild Fires

Emergency Services 9-11-01 Mission Activation Florida Wing Flew AF Emergency Preparedness Personnel beginning on 9-11-01 State officials from Florida had tasked Florida Wing CAP volunteers to monitor the airports in the state and provide advisories to pilots at uncontrolled fields of the flight restrictions in place -- 61 airports/284 CAP personnel. Georgia Wing Flew robotic supplies to Hanscom AFB, MA for robots being used at WTC site New York Wing Provide initial airborne photos of World Trade Center

Mission Support to State of Florida Florida Wing is specifically mentioned in Florida Statutes Chap 252 (Emergency Management) and is part of the Florida Comprehensive Management supporting Emergency Support Functions (ESF) 1 (transportation), 2 (communications), 8 (health), and 9 (SAR) Florida Wing has a permanent home in the State Emergency Operations Center

Pilot Awareness Always file (and open) a flight plan. Fly route stated on flight plan. Inform Flight Service of any in route changes. Let your family members know where you are going and when you will return. Monitor 121.5. Report any ELT’s to the nearest flight service station. Remember to close your flight plan. Non distress beacon and non closure of flight plans cause SAR assets to be alerted.
