 The history of Wales begins with the arrival of human beings in the region, thousands of years ago.  Scholars believe that prehistoric people lived in caves in northern Wales some 200,000 years ago.  People from the European mainland began settling in Wales thousands of years ago.  About 2000BC people called beaker folk the Wales region. 500BC the Celts began arriving in the country.  The Romans invaded and conquered Wales between AD 60 and AD 75. They ruled the country for 400 years.  Wales made union with England in 1543.

 The most popular sports in Wales are rugby union and football.  Wales enjoys independent representation in major world sporting events such as the FIFA World Cup, Rugby World Cup and in the Commonwealth Games.  The Millennium Stadium is the country's national stadium, located in Cardiff.  The Millennium Stadium is home of the Wales national rugby union team and the Wales national football team and holds 74,500 people.  Wales traditional sport was called Cnapan, which is known as Celtic. This is a medieval football game.  Cnapan is an old version of what we call Rugby today and was played in Wales until the nineteenth centur y.

 Wales is a generally mountainous country on the western side of central southern Great Britain.  Wales is between the Irish Sea to the north and the Bristol Channel to the south.  It is part of the United Kingdom, and is bordered by England to its east.  The Atlantic Ocean, St George's Channel and Irish Sea to the west of Wales.  Cardiff is the capital city of Wales.

 The official language in Wales is English and Welsh.  The currency in Wales is sterling / Great British pounds.  The population in Wales was estimated in 2010 as 3,006,400.  Chief products in Wales are cattle, hay, potatoes,turnips, aluminium, iron, steal and coal.

 Welsh cuisine has been influenced by, British cuisine. Beef and dairy cattle are raised widely.  Lamb and seafood are widely used foods in Wales.  Traditional Welsh food tends to be simple. These foods include: Bara Brith, which is known as fruitcakes and lob scows known as lamb stew.  The vegetable leek is Wales national vegetable.

 Wales is traditionally referred to as "the land of song". [ Wales has a history of folk music related to Celtic music of countries such as Ireland and Scotland. [  Music in Wales is often connected with Male Voice Choirs.  This tradition of choral singing has been expressed through sporting events, especially in the country's national sport of rugby.  1905 saw the first singing of a national anthem, Wales' Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau, at the start of an international sporting encounter.  Tom Jones and Shirley Bassey are two famous singers from Wales.

 Wales artist include painters such as Richard Wilson, Thomas Jones and sculptures such as Barry Flanagan and John Gibson.
