Careers Choices What do you want to be when you grow up?

It’s Your Future! Tips for High School Students by Randall S. Hansen, Ph.D. 1.Take time to think about what you like to do; dream and imagine ideal careers. 2.Work, volunteer, or otherwise gain some experience. 3.Get as much education as you can. 4.Talk with as many adults as possible about careers and colleges. 5.Remember that everyone must follow his or her own path in life. 6.People change; don’t feel locked into any college or career now. 7.Don’t let anyone control your dreams and ambitions. 8.It’s never too early nor too late to get organized and begin making plans. 9.Never stop learning… read, grow, and expand your mind.

Quiz Time Is the average (adjusted) wage more or less than 30 years ago?

Answer Our real wages have been falling since 1973, despite huge increases in corporate profits and in productivity. Average hourly earnings are now about 20 percent lower than they were in 1972.

More Questions…. What percentage of workers do not have jobs?

Answer According to the U.S. Labor Department, one out of four workers are either unemployed, involuntarily working part-time, or working full-time at poverty wages.

One more Questions… What percentage of jobs are obtained through the newspaper wanted ads? The internet?

Answer…. Newspapers only produce about 7 percent of hiring results. The Internet accounts for 33 percent of hiring results. Facts found in The Ultimate Job Search (JIST, © 2006), by Richard H.
