Introduction to Digital Filmmaking Mr. Phillips Design Lab – Rm. 38

Course Overview This one semester digital video and film class will give students the opportunity to express ideas and entertain through the creation and production of movies. Students will study aspects of film and get introduced to the moviemaking process: from storyboarding, scriptwriting and pre-production planning to acting, directing, and producing. Students will also study the filmmaking process throughout the decades starting with a 1920’s silent film through a 1990’s animation.

The Team Commitment Student videos are usually created as a production team. Organization, responsibility, flexibility and cooperation are all essential skills students must possess. Students will be responsible for taking a lead role in each of their productions. Students must also be able to take instruction and constructive criticism from their peers.

Expectations  Give your best effort every day  Come to class with a positive attitude  Think beyond the screen  Don’t limit yourself  Make ordinary become extraordinary

Classroom Rules  Be RESPONSIBLE  Be RESPECTFUL  Be PREPARED

Procedures & Routines All classroom procedures and routines will be followed each day to allow for a safe and effective learning environment.

Do I have homework? Every day. The best way to learn is by watching professionals. Watch and study TV or movies at least 10 minutes every night. Watch for changing camera angles and how interactions between characters are filmed. How do you set up a fight scene compared to action. Suspense compared to romance. How is dialogue between characters shot? What did you learn? How will you use it in your next production.
