The Audition Book Prepare For Any Audition That May Come Your Way.

The Song Should Serve You The audition book is your life when it comes to auditioning. Choose material that is appropriate to your abilities, age, and role you are auditioning for. Sing a song that you perform well, do not just choose a song because you love it. Make SURE that the music is in your key and that you know the arrangement you have on your sheet music. Make any cuts or markings easy to see and understand.

You Should Serve The Song A song is much more than just notes and words. Your job is to bring the song to life. Understand the lyric and the intention of the character. Tell us the story! Respect Yourself, The Song and The Audition panel enough to really prepare the song well. If you blow an audition over lack of preparation or practice, then shame on you.

What To Include Minimum Requirements Ballads: 1 Contemporary & 1 Classic Medium/Up Tempo: 1 Contemporary & 1 Classic Be sure they show you AT YOUR BEST!

Good Additions Various Style Breakdowns: 1. Comedy Song 2. Contemporary, but not current Show 3. Classic Style: Golden Age 4. Patter Song: ( Complicated wordy song like :Trouble in River City, I’m Not Getting Married, etc…Gilbert & Sullivan, Cole Porter, Noel Coward etc…) 5. Torch Song - Women : Generally, but not always Belters 6. Rock – Select Carefully. Melodic & Musical, not screaming. Elton John, Stevie Wonder, Randy Newman etc..) 7. Country – Rare, but possible.

Remember Choose material that shows you at your best. That may not necessarily be your highest & lowest notes. Comfort & Ease of Delivery is more important- especially under the stress of an audition. Keep an extra copy of your book at home Make sure your name is on your music and on your book Make sure your music is neat, easy to read, and in the correct key with clear cuts. Also be sure it is the arrangement you expect to hear. Keep the music in your folder & neat. NEVER fold it or stuff sheets in your bag. Choose your material carefully and LOVE YOUR SONG!
