Integrating the NASP Practice Model Into Presentations: Resource Slides Referencing the NASP Practice Model in professional development presentations helps structure your presentation. It is an easy way to illustrate the model in practice. It helps school psychologists see their work within the context of the model and NASP’s professional standards. It helps decision makers see how the model supports district/school priorities, services and outcomes. The following slides can be incorporated and adapted into your presentations as you see fit. Slide notes offer suggestions on how you might adapt the slides using a sample topic (safety and bullying). Practice Model Resources and Information are available online at http://www.nasponline.org/standards/practice-model/index.aspx
This slide is useful if you want your audience to position your topic within the model. It will help attendees better understand the relationship between the domains. You can just note the domains of practice that are most relevant to the content of your talk. If you want to provide more detail, here are some general talking points: School psychologists have a foundation knowledge base in both education and psychology Use effective strategies to help students succeed academically, socially, behaviorally, and emotionally Apply their knowledge & skills by creating and maintaining safe, supportive, fair, and effective learning environments and enhancing family-school collaboration for all students Ensure that their knowledge, skills, and professional practices reflect understanding and respect for human diversity and promote effective services, advocacy, and social justice for all children, families, and schools Integrate knowledge and skills across all 10 domains of practice, resulting in direct, measurable outcomes for children, families, and schools NOTE: It is important to note that many practices and services touch on numerous (sometime almost all) of the domains but that today you are highlighting the most relevant domains.
NASP Practice Model: Relevant Domains Practices That Permeate All Aspects of Service Delivery Data-Based Decision Making and Accountability Consultation and Collaboration Direct and Indirect Services for Children, Families, and Schools Interventions and Instructional Support to Develop Academic Skills Interventions and Mental Health Services to Develop Social and Life Skills School-Wide Practices to Promote Learning Preventive and Responsive Services Family-School Collaboration Foundations of Service Delivery Diversity in Development and Learning Research and Program Evaluation Legal, Ethical, and Professional Practice SINGLE OVERVIEW SLIDE: This slide can be used as a single slide to illustrate the Practice Model as a framework that illustrates the foundational knowledge and skill base of school psychologists. When incorporating the model into your presentation, you may wish to use this slide to illustrate how the discussion will incorporate various domains. For example, a presentation on a school-wide approach to promote school safety and bullying prevention could use this slide to illustrate that school psychologists will utilize their skills in: Data-based decision making (collecting data and progress monitoring student and staff perceptions, objective reporting, etc.) School-wide practices to promote learning (Utilizing systems-level knowledge) Preventive and responsive services (Employing knowledge of prevention models into practice) Research and program evaluation (Utilizing skills in program evaluation to determine the effectiveness of the approach) Importantly, presenters can use this single slide to demonstrate how school psychologists integrate a comprehensive skill set to engage in the topic you are presenting on. You may also wish to use the more specific slides that follow. The arrows can be used, moved, modified, or replaced, and the slide can be edited as you see fit. 3

We have created slides for each domain for this purpose and, as an example, have adapted the four domain slides (domains 1, 5, 6, 9) highlighted in the overview slide. 5
