Response to the Earthquake Highways were damaged across the region which delayed rescue troops Same day as the earthquake 50,000 troops had been sent from Chendgu 184 person earthquake emergency relief team was dispatched to the region from Beijing n the same day On May 12 Helicopters were deployed for the relief effort

Response Cont. As early as Wednesday rescue teams from many regions were ready to join the relief effort. However due to traffic Problems in the area the Chinese Red Cross said it was inconvenient Red Cross called for a need of Tents, medical supplies, food, and drinking water along with cash donations.

More Response By May 16 rescue groups from South Korea, Japan, Singapore, Russia and Taiwan had joined the effort. China was praised for its swift and open response to the Earthquake. The response within China allowed for 1.5 billion Yuan to be donated for the relief effort during a Telethon on May 18

Landslides They were a continuous problem for rescue crews Persistent heavy rains compounded the problem of the landslides Some roads were either completely damaged or blocked off by the landslides

Relief Effort Cont. By Nov 21, ,000 homes were rebuilt, 685, 000 were under reconstruction 1300 schools had been reconstructed 25 townships have been relocated $441 billion dollars had been spent by the government

Foreign and Domestic Aid Aid came in all sorts of forms from money, to tents, food, medical supplies and other necessities. The Red Cross of China flew in 557 tents and 2500 quilts in the beginning Over 50 Countries and International Organizations gave money and or relief supplies to China for this effort.

Aid Cont. Following the earthquake, donations were made by people from all over mainland China, with booths set up in schools, at banks, and around gas stations. People also donated blood, resulting in according to Xinhua long line-ups in most major Chinese cities. Many donated through text messaging on mobile phones to accounts set up by China Unicom and China Mobile. By May 16, the Chinese government had allocated a total of $772 million for earthquake relief so far, up sharply from $159 million from May 14. On May 16 China stated it had also received $457 million in donated money and goods for rescue efforts so far, including $83 million from 19 countries and four international organizations.

More Aid There was hundreds of thousands to millions of tents sent from various countries in the relief effort At the minimum of 500 tons of materials have been donated as well from all over the world Millions upon millions were also sent from around the world
