Welcome to James A. Garfield Elementary School Back to School Night

Mission Statement Success for Every Student Through Excellence in Teaching and in Learning

Garfield School Overview  147 students in Grades Pre-K-5  11 – 23 students in each class  8 new students enrolled over the summer  1 section in each grade except Grade 2 where we have 2 sections.

Get to know Mr. Wiltsey, Building Administrator  14 years experience in education as a teacher, coach, supervisor, and chief academic officer  This is my first building administrator position  Master’s Degree in School Counseling from Wilmington University and School Leadership Certification via Rowan University and NJ EXCEL  A father of two sons and a daughter, grades 4, 2, and K. Husband to Amy Wiltsey, Secondary Math Coach in Collingswood  Absolutely love working with children in the Collingswood School District

New This Year at Garfield School  Continue to embrace the Common Core State Standards.  Chromebooks in Grades 4 and 5 (one per student). Arrive in October 2014  PARCC Testing in Grades 3, 4, and 5 (PARCC stands for Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers).  Theme – “We are Family”  5 th Grade Spotlight  Beginning partnership with Collingswood Manor

How to Help Us Keep Your Children Safe  Enter and exit through the front door.  Check in at the office each time you visit and be prepared to show ID  Drop off begins at 8:15  Pick up at 3:00 (2:55 for Pre-K)  Notify office by 2:00 p.m. if there are changes to your child’s dismissal plans.  Make sure the office and your child’s teacher have your most up-to-date contact information  Unless you have sent in a note to pick up your child early, please avoid buzzing in to the main office after 2:45
